This week we will begin discussion on Chapter 1 of this Foundational Study Series. The focus will be on God’s call to each woman. What should be the influence of each woman’s vocation in the world around her, and what does it mean to carry the Gospel to the world as a woman in society today.
We will learn how God has uniquely created each woman to share in His most sovereign act – the bringing of life, perhaps new life, or spiritual life – to the world. By the gift of a woman’s gender, she is intended to be a “mother”, as all woman are meant to bring life in some way, physically, socially, and spiritually, whether in the family, the church, or in the world.
In addition, Holy Mother Church, through Vatican II’s closing message to women, tells us that our call as women in the modern age is to use our special gifts to aid mankind in not falling. This is a daunting task, but we can embrace it as the Blessed Virgin Mary embraced her call, with humility, to help her son, Jesus Christ, bring salvation to the world. Mary is our model of womanly receptivity and surrender to God’s plan.
